Jenny Downham: Hello, my name is Jenny Downham. My first name is actually Jennifer, but as a child I was only ever called this when someone was telling me off, so as an adult, I prefer Jenny. Jennifer is a Cornish form of the Welsh name Guinevere, which translated from Celtic means "white phantom."

My surname has an H in it. You'd think it might be pronounced down-HAM, but the H is silent, so you pronounce it DOWN-um. The word down is from the Old English word dun, which means "hill," and the word ham is also Old English and means "home." So, if you put my whole name together, I am a white phantom who lives on a hill. I've always found that rather romantic.
