A young girl describes her day of fun and sun at the beach in a spirited rhyming text distinguished by Patricia Hubbell’s delightfully playful language. “We jump, jump, jump / in the curly-whirly wave. / Cold water doesn’t scare us / ’cause we’re brave, brave, brave.” Hubbell has a wonderful ear for sound: the sand is “scritchy-scratchy,” the sea is “swishy-swashy.” Toddlers will enjoy the spirit of this lighthearted summertime romp throughout the year. (Ages 2–4)
