Book Description
for The Old Synagogue by Richard Rosenblum
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
The synagogue, originally built centuries ago by Jewish immigrants in a busy, thriving neighborhood, is abandoned and sold when their descendents grow up and move away. Generations later, Jewish families gradually begin moving back into the old neighborhood, rediscover the old synagogue and work to restore it. Detailed pen-and-ink drawings in black and white focus on a special building in order to document growth, deterioration and regrowth in a big city neighborhood. (Ages 7-11)
