Book Descriptions
for Firefighters A to Z by Chris L. Demarest
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
The simple rhyming text in this book describes firefighting-related activities and gear for each letter of the alphabet. This accompanies a simple narrative in which the firefighters respond to a call. Pastel scenes illustrating the text span each 9 x 12” page. There is a lot of action on these vivid pages and a nice mix of general and detailed information (“A is for Alarm, B is for Boots, K is for K-tool, S is for Sounding”). The illustrations and text together provide a basic understanding of the more technical terms, and a note from the author/artist, a volunteer firefighter, provides additional detail on fires and firefighting. (Ages 3-5)

Every day, brave firefighters come to our rescue. When the fire alarm sounds, men and women put on their uniforms, slide down the firehouse pole, jump in their big red trucks, and rush to save our lives. From the minute the fire alarm rings, the day of a firefighter is filled with adventure -- and danger. Wherever there is a fire, we can be sure that firefighters will always be there!
