A tale discovered in Kenya, Africa, has been retold with a cumulative refrain bringing the rhythm of “The House that Jack Built,” the English nursery rhyme to which the similarity of this variant was noticed more than seventy years ago. The artist is originally from Argentina, she used brilliant colors, stylized forms, and space to illustrate the story. (4-9 years)

A cumulative rhyme relating how Ki-pat brought rain to the drought-stricken Kapiti Plain. Verna Aardema has brought the original story closer to the English nursery rhyme by putting in a cumulative refrain and giving the tale the rhythm of “The House That Jack Built.”
